Outer Banks Center for Wildlife EducationThe Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education is located inside Currituck Heritage Park on RT. 12 N. just past MP 11 in Corolla.  The building is between the Currituck Beach Lighthouse and the historic Whalehead Club. 

It houses over 250 decoys, an exhibit gallery, an 8,400 gallon aquarium and a gift shop.  An short feature film, "Life by Water's Rhythms" provides insight into the unique heritage of the Northern Outer Banks. 

Classes offered include Birding, Kayaking, Decoy Carving, Fishing, Nature Photography.

Admission is free and educational programs are offered for all ages. 

Learn to fish, explore Currituck Sound by kayak, carve your own duck decoy, and discover the wonders of local animals and plants.

History on Hooves-  -Location - Corolla Wild Horse Fund - Tues., Nov. 18, 2008 - 11:00 amLearn the history as it relates to the wild horses that have called the Outer Banks home for centuries.  Are they really direct descendents of the horses of Spain?  How have they survived for 500 years?  And most importantly, how much longer can they remain “wild and free”? Light lunch will be served. The Knapp Legacy in Currituck County – Location:  Outer Banks Center for Wildlife Education  - Tues., Dec. 16, 2008 - 10:00 am  Joseph P. Presentation on Tiffany Glass - by Gary Baker, Location:  The Whalehead Club, Tues., Jan. 13, 2009-11:00 am - Gary Baker, former Curator of Glass at the Chrysler Museum in Norfolk, VA, will present a program on Louis Comfort Tiffany. Tiffany, unlike his jewelry-making family, became known throughout the world for his innovative and artistic glass-making. Tiffany’s contribution to the Art Nouveau movement will be highlighted through the beautiful examples of his glass-work in the Whalehead Club.  In addition, Mr Baker will help identify pieces of your personal glass & silver collections. Storytelling; Pass It On Through Oral Histories -Location:  The Currituck Beach Lighthouse  - Tues., Feb. 10, 2009 - 11:00 am - Come having read “To Illuminate the Dark Space,” oral histories of the Keepers of the Currituck Beach Lighthouse which is available online (http://www.currituckbeachlight.com/toilluminate.php), tour the Keepers’ house, and listen to Sylvia Payne, who through the generosity of the NC Humanities Council, will present a 45 minute program on preserving family oral histories.
